Hello, my name is Holly and I have recently joined Moretonhampstead Development Trust as Environment and Sustainability Trustee.
I recently graduated with a BSc (Hons) degree in Applied Animal Science from the University of Plymouth, having returned to studying after 6 years in employment. I grew up surrounded by animals and nature and have lived in Manaton since the age of 15.
I have over five years' experience as an animal keeper in wildlife parks, where I had the privilege of working with a wide range of species and developed a strong passion for native wildlife and their habitats. My current focus is on promoting sustainable, healthy environments where both people and animals can thrive.
Outside of work, I volunteer with a variety of community and conservation projects, including the Bovey Tracey Social Supermarket, Devon Wildlife Trust’s Bat Group and the Two Moors Pine Marten Project. These experiences allow me to stay actively engaged with local conservation efforts while contributing to the wider community. In 2023, I spent some time in Far North Queensland, Australia, volunteering at a wildlife park and learning about how climate change is impacting their wildlife and environment.
I have also worked and volunteered with young people, supporting initiatives that connect them with nature and animals. Looking ahead, I am particularly interested in developing projects that help people of all ages build meaningful connections with the natural world.
